# How Do I Upload Files to Document Center
This article shows how to add files to a Document Center folder by dragging them in or by choosing them from your computer. You need to be an Owner or Org Admin.
##### **When Would You Use This?**
Use Document Center uploads to keep your organization's records in one place that members and admins can find later - for example, a signed contract, photos from a community event, or a PDF of the CC&Rs so members can look it up themselves instead of calling in.
##### **How to Upload**
There are two ways to get files into Document Center:
**Drag and drop** - the fastest route:
1. Click **Document Center** in the left nav.
2. Open the folder you want to add files to. Files cannot be uploaded at the top level of Document Center, so create a folder first if you do not have one (see [How Do I Create and Organize Folders in Document Center](https://help.hoastart.app/how-do-i-create-and-organize-folders-in-document-center?hsLang=en)).
3. Drag one or more files from your desktop or file explorer and drop them anywhere in the folder view.
##### **Traditional upload dialog:**
1. Open the folder you want to add files to.
2. Click **Actions**.
3. Choose **Upload files**, then pick the file(s) from the file browser dialog.
A progress panel appears in the bottom-right corner while the upload runs, showing each file name and its progress. When the upload finishes, an Upload complete window confirms the file name. Click OK to close it. A new file may show a Pending label next to its name for a short time.
##### **Good to Know**
- Each file can be up to 250 MB. See "[What Are the Maximum File Size and File Type Limits in Document Center](https://help.hoastart.app/what-are-the-maximum-file-size-and-file-type-limits-in-document-center?hsLang=en)" for details on what happens if a file is too large.
- The new file takes that folder's permission level (Admin only, Member read, or Public) automatically. Check the folder's permission before you upload anything private: a Public folder can be opened by anyone with the link, no login needed (see [How Do I Set Permissions on a Document Center Folder](https://help.hoastart.app/how-do-i-set-permissions-on-a-document-center-folder?hsLang=en)).
- Uploads at the root level (outside any folder) aren't available — Upload files only appears in the Actions menu while inside a folder. At the root, Actions only offers New folder.
