# How Do I Match a Bank Transaction to My Books

Matching is how a bank-fed transaction — a deposit or a withdrawal the bank reports — gets tied to something already recorded in the platform, such as an invoice payment or an expense.

##### **How to Get There**

1. Click Financials in the left nav, then Bank Reconciliation.
2. In the For review tab, click the transaction to match.

##### **Using the Matching Panel**

The panel header reads “Match to: \[transaction\] — \[date\]” with the transaction’s amount. Below it:

- A search box narrows the list of candidate book records — by invoice, name, or property for a deposit, or by vendor or amount for a withdrawal.
- A From/To date range filter narrows candidates further by date.
- Only the first 100 candidate records are shown at a time. On an older account with a lot of history, narrowing the search or the date range is usually the fastest way to surface the right one if it isn’t visible yet.
- A scrollable Other records list shows the candidates themselves, each with a checkbox.

1. Check one or more records in Other records.

Checking records updates a running summary: the Bank amount, the Selected count and total, and the Difference between the two. For example, a single rent deposit might actually cover two separate invoices for the same household — one for the regular assessment and one for a late fee — so both would need to be checked.

1. Once the selected records add up exactly to the bank amount, the panel shows Balanced — $0.00 and the Match button becomes active.
2. Click Match.

The Match button stays disabled until the Difference reaches exactly $0.00 — a partial match isn’t allowed. If nothing in Other records adds up to the transaction, either search further or create a new record for the shortfall with Add record; see “How Do I Manually Add a Record to Match During Bank Reconciliation?”

##### **After Matching**

The transaction moves out of For review and into the Cleared tab, tagged “Matched.” A completed match can be reversed later if needed — see “How Do I Undo a Cleared Bank Reconciliation Transaction?”
